With over 20 years of experience as a surgeon Shantanu did his undergraduate and Post graduate training in Surgery in India following which he moved to the UK where he completed higher specialist training in General Surgery with Fellowships in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary surgery and Transplantation.

 

Shantanu migrated to Australia in 2016 and has set up the third whole organ pancreas transplant program in Australia which is the first steroid free program in the country and has had to date 100% patient and graft survival since its inception. He has to his credit the performance of the first live donor simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplant in India in 2008.

 

His areas of interest include

  • Benign and malignant disorders of the liver, gall bladder, biliary tract and Pancreas.
  • Endoscopy and Colonoscopy
  • Vascular access for dialysis and chemotherapy.
  • Open and laparoscopic nephrectomy for polycystic kidney disease, bilateral native nephrectomy for intractable hypertension
  • Kidney Transplantation; Ureteric reconstruction following transplantation
  • Peritoneal access for dialysis
  • Pancreas Transplantation

 

He has a particular interest in laparoscopic and open

  • complex ventral and incisional hernia repair with or without component separation
  • laparoscopic management of groin hernias and
  • evaluation of obscure groin pain and sports hernia.

 

Shantanu is available for consultation by appointment at the Queen Elizabeth Specialist Centre and offers surgery at the Western Hospital, Ashford Hospital and Burnside War Memorial Hospital.
